Mini Rant
This really rubs my rhubarb the wrong way: Whenever ANYBODY writes about a tennis player (or any athlete for that matter) and they refer to them as “gods.” I’m not talking about blaming the ethereal “Tennis Gods,” for bad draws or sneaky injuries, I’m talking about when I read a blogger/writer/journo that I normally enjoy reading, and they can seem to do nothing but wax poetic about a certain player, and do it repeatedly in an article, seemingly for emphasis (it’s not working, by the way). For the record: I ENJOY seeing the flaws in others, especially pro-athletes. It certainly makes them more relatable to me, and I like to see how somebody with so much talent/skill/discipline carries on and solves the problem before them. So this notion of “perfect,” whether you’re talking about Nole, Fed, Rafa, Serena or even Martina, while it’s nice, it’s unrealistic, and I’ll take a double-dose of reality any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
